Working with Portland Public Schools, City of Portland City Hall, and Multnomah County historic buildings, OHPD submitted the required SHPO forms for each of the contributing schools. We have a high level of success meeting the SHPO concerns and maintaining the intent of the project scope by involving SHPO early in the process to ensure that there will not be delays as the project progresses. Our preservation philosophy is predicated on a detailed understanding of the historical and architectural significance of the building(s) and site, and on an equally detailed understanding of the program. Working with historic buildings takes innovation and creativity to fulfill the needs of the present-day program and the building’s physical capability to support and enhance the program without loss of significant, character-defining features or fabric.
